Principal’s Message
Note from the Principal
As we move into the second trimester, the holidays, and a new year I want to say thank you to the staff, students, and parents who consistently help to make a difference here at Laurin. I am so honored to be able to work with all of you and count my blessings every day.
I have highlighted some of the newsworthy information for you below to add to your calendars for the month of December and January. We will continue to keep you informed by e-mail and by our new “Connect Ed” phone bank that was initiated last week. If you did not receive a call from our Superintendent Dr. Bria or my Assistant Principal Steve Hoskins, let us know so we can be sure to get you connected.
Peer Mediation
We are proud to have another student leadership program beginning this month called “Peer Mediation”. Several students were trained along with students from other middle schools to learn how to mediate problems that other students have not been able to resolve. This program was initiated and led by our half time counselor, Mrs. Roadifer.
Outstanding Fees
The office has informed me that there are several students who have not paid for their student handbook and other fees yet this year (approximately $1400 unpaid fees). I want to remind students and their parents that report cards cannot be issued for the first trimester to those students who have unpaid fees. I’m sure for most of you it is an oversight, but if paying the fees creates a hardship please contact the office for assistance. Individual student notices will be coming home at the end of the week, along with email notices too.
Winter Attire
As the weather becomes colder it is even more important for our students to come to school with the appropriate clothing for this time of year. It is not uncommon for us to see students arriving in the morning with shorts, flip flops, and no coats. Keep in mind that all students have a noon recess in which they are outside for fifteen minutes. Please encourage your child to leave home in the morning with warm clothing. Also, shorts and skirts need to be mid thigh regardless if the student has leggings under them.
Important Dates in January
Remember to put these dates on your calendar for January. There is an Eighth Grade Celebration planning meeting on January 6 th and a PTO meeting on January 13 th. Early release days are on January 22 nd and 23 rd.
Happy Holidays
Winter Break begins on December 20 th with students returning on January 5, 2009. The Laurin Staff would like to wish all our students, parents and community the happiest of holidays and good tides, health, happiness, and prosperity for the coming New Year.
Sincerely,
JoDee McMillen
Steve Hoskins, and Laurin Staff
