Please begin with these key tasks NOW:

1. Check graduation credits with Mr. Graham. No surprises!!  

2. Register any Credit Waivers with Mr. Graham 

3. Print and begin filling out your Post High School Planning Check Sheet  

4. Complete a Resume’  

5. TYPE AND SAVE: “Student Information Worksheet” for all of your Letter-of-Recommendation Writers  

6. Identify at least three (3) Letters-of-Recommendation  

7. Continue School/Career searches using software, websites, books, email, phone, college and career fairs, and personal on-site visits  

8. Consider a Career Shadow experiences  

9. Your first SAT/ACT exams should be taken at least six weeks prior to your college application deadlines. Additional test results may be sent at a later date. Usually only the best “total composite scores” will count.

Some Key Mindsets during your future quest:  

  • “Start with the end in mind” Contact college leaders to ask what they want you to do in preparation for thier programs. Don't guess or assume or it will cost you time and $.

  • “Be an EDUCATIONAL ENTREPRENEUR” Treat your education like a business.

  • “Personal responsibility and tenacity win the college application/$$$$$$$ race”

  • “Trust is a wonderful thing. Second and third opinions . . . even better.

  • Well intended misinformation can be extremely expensive over time. ”

OCTOBER

Select final options and visitations for post-graduation endeavors.

List all appropriate deadlines.

Begin all application processes (earlier for early decision, private and out-of-state colleges) Download all Applications and other forms for Admissions and Scholarships.

Prepare basic data for application essays.

Begin weekly scholarship watch/search - apply when sorted and selected.

Include list on Counseling Bulletin Board, financial aid Web sites, college Financial Aid departments, Community Businesses and Organizations (Get Creative)

*** Don’t pay for Financial Aid information without first talking to Mr. Graham

ASVAB Testing for those interested in the Military – Contact Local Recruiting Offices

Obtain financial aid applications from Mr. Graham, PHS or BGHS Counseling/Career centers, each College Financial Aid Administrator, Financial Aid WEB Sites or call

1-800-4FED-AID – Better to do it all online (see WEB Site)

Balance studies, work and activities to maintain high GPA for college acceptance and scholarships

Additional information on Federal student aid go to: www.ed.gov/offices/OPE/Students

Both you and your parents will use IRS documents to show earnings for FAFSA

Contact colleges to obtain any financial aid applications they require besides the FAFSA

Private campus aid is often on the first-come first-served basis

Take any last-minute college entrance exams as needed. Date returned in January.
