From the Principals

January was difficult for all of us due to the inclement weather and lack of a consistent schedule. We are looking forward to a "Normal February". We would like to thank you for helping make the pick-up area safe. Closing the lane closest to the primary has clearly created a safer situation for students and adults, as well as shortened the wait time for pick up. Thank you for your help!

As we look toward future planning we would like your input regarding next year. Consideration is being given to students K-8 being on the same bell schedule, while staggering release time by a few minutes to ensure safety on the walking routes. Please be looking for a survey to come home with students February 22nd. We are hoping to receive all feedback by February 29th. Your thoughts are very valuable to us!

PTA Vice President Position Available

At the General Meeting on February 4, 2008 at 7:00 pm, the PTA plans to open the floor to nominations and hold a vote to fill the open position of Vice President, as well as vote on several budget issues. Anyone and everyone is invited and welcome to attend the meeting, but in order to fill the Vice President position and vote on the budget, the PTA is required to have at least 10 paid members present. Please help us continue to move forward and do great things for our schools by planning to attend this meeting. If you'd like to become a member, PTA membership forms are available in each school office or online at www.daybreakpta.org/membership.htm. A.S.B. Cookie Dough Sale
(Middle School Only)

The A.S.B. will be having a Cookie Dough Sale from January 31^st to February 15^th. Profits go to help support student activities. Cookie Dough orders will be due on Friday, February 15^th. Delivery time will be on the 29^th in the cafeteria that the end of the school day.

Parent Math Opportunity

We would like to extend an invitation to you to attend one or all of the upcoming Parent Education Math Classes. These classes are intended to assist parents with helping their students at home with math and will be held in the Media Center from 6:00-8:00. The titles of these programs are:

Please give us a call or write a note when your child is absent. This is a requirement that comes from the state legislators. Thanks for your help in this matter.

Parking Lot Safety

PLEASE……

Drive at slow speeds of 10mph in the Daybreak parking lot
Pick up your child curb side in the parent pick up area and have them enter and exit at curb side
Pull out slowly when picking up or dropping off your student
Be patient as parents are picking up and dropping off their students
Keep your student with you at all times when walking in the parking lot
Help us model safety by using the designated cross walks when walking to and from the parking lot
Stop at the cross walk and allow pedestrians the right of way
Use the parking lot outside the Primary School for pick up and drop off. The middle school parking lot is for staff parking and school busses only

Recess Box

Please remember to wear your coat when going to recess. It’s getting chilly and you are not allowed in the buildings to get your coats

Attention parents…New vaccine laws for 2008/2009 school Year!!!

We have received new requirements from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention and the WA State Board of Health. There are several NEW adaptations required before starting school in September, 2008!

Varicella (Chickenpox)

All children entering Kindergarten after July 1, 2008, must have:

Two doses of the varicella vaccine, received on or after their 1^st birthday and at least 28 days apart; or

Health Care Provider diagnosis or verification of having had Chicken Pox or herpes zoster; or
Date of blood test (titer) that shows immunity to varicella or herpes zoster; or
Exemption from immunity based on medical, religious or personal reason.

PARENTAL DOCUMENTATION OF HISTORY OF HAVING HAD CHICKEN POX WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED FOR THESE STUDENTS.

All children entering 1st, 2^ndand, 6th grades after July 1, 2008 must have:

One dose of varicella vaccine; or
Documentation of having had chicken pox (parental documentation is acceptable); or
Exemption from immunity based on medical, religious or personal reason.

Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis)

As of July 1, 2008, children attending 6^th and 7^th grades and are at least 11 years old, are required:

To show proof of Tdap vaccination if it has been 5 years (or more) since receiving a DTaP, DT or Td vaccine. Documentation must include the day, month and year or
Exemption from immunity based on medical, religious, or personal reason.
